Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop: when will I get it? [updated: Sprint update out now

The Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Galaxy S5 has started to roll out in the US at last. Verizon updated the Galaxy S5 at the start of February and now Sprint customers are getting the Android 5.0 OTA update as well. Find out here how you can get Android Lollipop on your Galaxy S5 right now.

Galaxy S5 Android update in the US

Sprint
Sprint has followed hot on Verizon's heels, with users receiving the OTA update on Sprint-branded S5's in the US (SM-G900P). To check to see if the update is waiting for you, just go to Settings > About Phone > Software Update.
The changelog is pretty minimal:
  • Android OS update to v5.0 Lollipop
  • Enhanced VoWiFi UI
  • Lumen tool bar removed
Verizon
The Galaxy S5 Lollipop update is also available for S5 owners on the Verizon network (SM-G900V). The update apparently comes in two bundles, updating the firmware to build number VRU1BNLC.
Samsung is claiming lots of Material Design, but...that's open to interpretation. Still, from what we can see the update looks a real treat. When you get the update, be sure to let us know how you like it in the comments below.

Galaxy S5 Android update in the UK/Europe

In the UK, the Lollipop update is also out, bringing devices up to Android 5.0 (LRX21T) following a successful launch
in other parts of Europe. Samsung is reportedly working on integrating Android 5.0.2 into TouchWiz already, but this isn't likely to make it onto the S5 for a little while yet.

Galaxy S5 Android update globally

In other news, though the Galaxy S5 LTE-A is not available globally, Samsung has still decided to update the device to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop and is working on the final build right now. The update will affect the Galaxy S5 LTE-A the same way it does the Galaxy S5 and other Samsung phones when they eventually get the update.
The 0.1 portion of the Android version includes some minor bug fixes from the first iteration of Android 5.0, fixing up problems like the automatic factory device reset or the video playback issues some devices with 5.0 were having. Read below for all the current Android 5.0 Lollipop info regarding the Galaxy S5.

Unofficial Galaxy S5 Android update firmware

For Galaxy S5 variants including SM-G900I and SM-G900M, head over to the XDA Developers forum where another working version of Android 5.0 Lollipop is also currently in development. It's an early build, but most features are working (NFC and the camera seemingly the only two things which aren't).
If you're eager to see what Lollipop will look like when it finally arrives on your device, head over there now and download the ROM.
If you want to learn about the status of the Android 4.4.4 update for Galaxy S5, that info can be found below the break.

What about the Android 4.4.4 update for the Galaxy S5?

Samsung’s flagship device, the Galaxy S5, has been receiving the Android 4.4.4 KitKat update in the US for a little while now, firstly on Verizon (who actually brought out a second update only a month after the first). Here's what you can expect from the latest S5 update from your carrier.

AT&T Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4. KitKat update

Sandwiched between the Verizon and Sprint Lollipop updates, the AT&T Galaxy S5 also got an update...but to Android 4.4.4 KitKat. While this is certainly not a bad thing, it seems likely that many AT&T customers will be remembering this delayed reaction when it comes to upgrade time.

Sprint Galaxy S5Android 4.4.4 KitKat update

The final build of Android 4.4.4 KitKat is rolling for the Sprint version of the Galaxy S5. As you know, the Galaxy S5 launched over six months ago with Android 4.4.2 and leapfrogged Android 4.4.3 entirely.
The update brings international VoWi-Fi, security patches, an HD voice icon and the full Android 4.4.4 KitKat suite of goodies.

Verizon Galaxy S5 Android updates

The Galaxy S5 update on Verizon has brought a wealth of improvements to the device, such as better music streaming connectivity and some UI changes in Memo and and Emergency Mode. It also updated some of the included software (bloatware) that comes with the device, like Message+ and Cloud.
The latest patch seems to be a little less comprehensive, but early reports suggest there has been some minor interface changes to look out for and a bluetooth related fix.
Verizon then pushed out yet another update for the Galaxy S5, less than a week after the last, with build number KTU84P.G900VVRU1ANI2.
The patch brings some extra tracking features to the S Health app, tweaks to enable VoLTE, and an option to turn off the Galaxy S5 camera shutter sound. If you were yet to download the previous update then it's likely you will jump straight to this latest version.
